    • Excuse me, I'm afraid I didn't catch it.
    • Sorry, I don't understand.
    • I don't know what ... means.
    • Your voice is very faint. Could you speak up, please?
    • Could you possibly come closer to the microphone?
    • Sorry, I didn't follow that completely. Would you mind going over it again?
    • Just a moment please. What exactly does ... mean?
    • Could you explain what you mean by ...?
    • If I understand you correctly: when you say ..., do you mean ...?
  • im Falle benötigter, exakter Details:
    • Could you spell that for me, please?
    • Could you be more specific about ...?
    • Could you explain in more detail ...?
    • I would be interested to hear a little more about ... . Would you mind giving me ...?
    • Are you in the position to say something about ...?
    • Would you care to expand on the point you made about ...?
  • im Fall eigener Sprachprobleme:
    • I'm afraid I don't know the English word for ... . Can you help me?
    • I'm afraid I can't explain that very clearly in English. But I'll do my best.
    • Maybe I didn't make myself clear.
    • Perhaps we were at cross-purposes.
    • Perhaps I have not made myself clear.
  • im Falle des Richtigstellens einer Aussage:
    • What I wished to say was ... .
    • I should explain that when I said ..., I meant that ... .
    • Let me put it another way ... .
    • Let's try to look at the case from another angle: ... .
    • Please allow me to add a word about ... .
    • Sorry, a slip of the tongue.
  • im Falle einer benötigten Denkpause:
    • Could you just bear with me a moment?
    • Excuse me, I'm looking for the word.
    • Can you give me a few more details about ..., please?
    • That's an important point.
    • That's very interesting. It really gives me something to think about.
    • I'm glad you asked that question.
    • I'm sorry, I've a mental block.
    • I'm sorry, I don't have the exact data.
  • im Falle des Vermeidens einer sofortigen Antwort:
    • Perhaps we could return to that later.
    • This issue could perhaps be taken up later.
    • I'd rather not comment on that at present.
    • I'm afraid I don't have the facts at my fingertips.
    • We should not act in haste on such a key matter.
